Child Development at Mead

Rand J. Gruen Ph.D.

Mission and Purpose

The Mead School and Westchester Child & Adult Psychological Services (CAPS) have partnered to enhance collaboration among schools, expert practitioners, and caregivers, promoting healthy child development. Led by Dr. Rand Gruen, this unique initiative focuses on a coaching model for all stakeholders and a strengths-based approach to mental health, emphasizing growth rather than treating illness. The initiative adopts a 360-degree, wrap-around model integrated within the school's ecosystem.

Tailored to parents' needs, the initiative offers resources for varying levels of engagement, such as educational materials and interactive events like Parent Coffees. Professional development for faculty will focus on developmental principles, counseling skills, and addressing diverse student needs. Parent development includes easily accessible information, parent-teacher language alignment, and community events.

Student-centered activities include Wellness Talks and peer                                                                                                                       mentoring, with a counselor available for drop-in sessions.
